Find Electricity and Power expertise in Dominica
Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC) is the only licensed provider of electricity in the country, and is partially owned by the US firm WRB (51%), whilst the Dominica Social Security owns 20%, and local corporate and private citizens own the remaining 29%. It should be noted that The Electricity Supply Act of 2006 abolished the monopoly previously held by DOMLEC. Currently, diesel generators fuelled by imported oil, and hydropower plants generate Dominica’s electric power. Dominica has amongst the highest electricity tariffs in the Eastern Caribbean — a source of concern and protest among many residents. The largest consumers of electricity are the domestic population and the commercial community, especially the government.
