The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) is a registered company wholly owned by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. It is responsible for the water infrastructure of the country. DOWASCO has a total of 44 Water System Areas that provide water to over 95% of Dominica. The largest of these sources – in Roseau – has a capacity of 3 million gallons per day. Four of these systems rely entirely on ram pumps or electrical pumps for their supply of water. The country’s plentiful rainfall and surface water supplies has led to the exporting of fresh water as a source of national income. The Ministry of Lands, Housing, Settlements and Water Resource Management is the government ministry in charge of the sector.
