Bilateral and Multilateral Co-operation

Rwanda has strong bilateral relationships with various countries, including the UK, the USA and South Africa. Collaborative efforts between the US and Rwandan governments has helped to establish regional stability through a mutual commitment to security organisations like the United Nations (UN). Rwanda’s relationship with the UK is expressed through the Department for International Development (DFID), which offers support that totals in the region of £46 million each year. The UK stipulated an intention to keep this level of support until 2016.

In 2009 Rwanda became a member of the Commonwealth. Rwanda is also a member of the UN and its specialised agencies; the World Bank; the IMF; the East African Community (EAC); the African Union (AU); and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP).
