Ntabankulu Local Municipality

Ntabankulu, isiXhosa for “Great Mountain”, is a local municipality in the Alfred Nzo district, Eastern Cape. Prior to 2011 the area was part of the OR Tambo district. The main town and seat of local government is Tabankulu. The main economic sectors of Ntabankulu are agriculture, sand and quarry mining, forestry and tourism. Local attractions include the Lalashe Horseshoe, a scenic bend of the Umzimvubu River near the village of Lalashe, and the Xukula bushman gravesite and caves at Bathweni Village, while the annual Pondo Cultural Festival at Lwandlolubomvu Great Place draws crowds every year.
