Umzimvubu Local Municipality

Umzimvubu, isiXhosa for “home of the hippopotamus”, is a predominantly rural local municipality in the Alfred Nzo district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Mount Frere, which is the seat of local government, and Mount Ayliff, the seat of the district. Also known as Kwabhaca, Mount Frere accommodates much of the population of the municipality and holds a range of businesses and restaurants.
