eThekwini Metropolitan Area

eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality is located in KwaZulu Natal, and stretches from Umkomaas in the south, to Tongaat in the north. The metropolitan area includes eThekwini – the third largest city in South Africa with over 3 million people – which is home to Africa’s busiest port. eThekwini’s economy is dominated by tertiary industries including finance (23 per cent), manufacturing (22 per cent), community services (17 per cent), and construction (3 per cent). eThekwini is also a major tourism destination due to the city’s warm sub-tropical climate and extensive beaches.
