Mpofana

Mpofana is located approximately 70 km west of Pietermaritzburg, and derives it name from the river Mpofana, which means ‘Place of Eland’. Mpofana benefits from its strategic location, which has easy access to rail and road infrastructure. The national highway linking Durban and Gauteng stretches through the municipal area, and the electrified railway line from Durban to Johannesburg passes through the town of Mooi River, which is the Municipality’s administrative centre.
