The market for general insurance is at least double that for life insurance. There are some 40 licensed insurance companies, half being general insurers and most of the rest with mixed business; very few are exclusively life insurers. No single company dominates the sector; the larger ones include AIG, APA, Blue Shield, the Jubilee, Kenindia and UAP. The Insurance Regulatory Authority is the industry regulator.
