Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality

Maluti-a-Phofung is a local municipality in the Thabo Mofutsanyane district, Free State. The municipality is Sesotho for Drakensberg Mountains, “Maluti” and Sentinel peak, “Phofung”. The main towns and cities are Harrismith, Kestell and Phuthaditjhaba. Although it is the smallest local municipality in the district, Maluti-a-Phofung comprises most of Thabo Mofutsanyane’s population. Agriculture is the main source of income for the area, and Platberg Nature Reserve to the east of Harrismith is Maluti-a-Phofung’s most prominent natural landmark.
