Great Kei Local Municipality

Great Kei, meaning “sand” in Khoekhoe, is a local municipality in the Amathole district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Amatola Coastal, Kei Mouth, Morgan Bay and Komga, which is the seat of local government. Komga is home toKomga Junior, one of the oldest schools in South Africa, as well as St. Paul’s Anglican church, a cultural heritage site. Great Kei is a popular tourist destination with a history of agriculture and keen cultural heritage. More recently the area has become popular with the film industry.
