Nala Local Municipality

Nala, Sesotho for “affluence”, is a local municipality in the Lejweleputswa district, Free State. The municipality is a combination of the Bothaville and Wesselsbron traditional local councils as well a part of the Vetvaal transitional rural council. The Sesotho meaning of “Nala” refers to the agricultural prosperity of the area, which forms part of South Africa’s maize triangle and produces meat and dairy products alongside grain. However, other towns such as Bothaville and Wesselsbron depend on nearby urban centres such as Welkom for commercial support.
