Midvaal Local Municipality

Midvaal, located halfway between Johannesburg and Vaal, is a local municipality in the Sedibeng district. It is predominantly rural with extensive farming constituting a high proportion of land. Despite this, the area has become a centre for tourism and recreation. Midvaal’s economy has experienced rapid growth over recent years, drawing in industry figures such as Sedibeng Breweries, resulting in it being labelled the fastest growing economy in Guateng. In 2010 Midvaal was ranked to be in the top ten per cent of local municipalities within South Africa, coming first in the Gauteng province for quality of life.
