Ezinqoleni

The Ezinqoleni Local Municipality is located on the south-western boundary of the Ugu District, to the west of Hibiscus Coast and the east of the uMuziwabantu municipalities. Ezinqoleni is an isiZulu name word meaning “at the wagons”.Towns within the municipal boundaries include Izingolweni, Nqabeni and Paddock. The major land uses in the area are tribal settlements (the KwaNyuswa, KwaMthimude and KwaVukuzithathe areas, which occupy 47 per cent of the Municipality), smallholdings and commercial farms. Economic activities in Ezinqoleni are mostly agricultural, and agriculture accounts for 45 per cent of all jobs. Commercial agriculture produces sugar-cane, tea and, more recently, macadamia nuts. There is small-scale mixed farming and susbsistence farming.
