Umzumbe

Umzumbe Local Municipality is named after the Umzumbe River, and is the largest municipality within the district. It covers a vast, largely rural area of some 1260 km2 with approximately 1 per cent built up/ semi-urban areas. The municipality incorporates 17 traditional authority areas comprising 19 municipal wards and has no established towns. The population congregates towards the coast, where fast transport routes allow access to economic opportunities.
