Maletswai Local Municipality

Maletswai, “place of salt” in Sesotho, is a local municipality in the Joe Gqabi district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Jamestown and Aliwal North, which is the seat of local government. The main economic sectors are agriculture and community services. The main tourist attraction in the area is Aliwal Spa, a thermal springs resort in Aliwal North which is known for being rich in minerals. In 2013 the spa was undergoing refurbishment and as such was closed to the public.
