Joe Gqabi District Municipality

Joe Gqabi, formerly Ukhahlamba, is a district municipality consisting of four local municipalities: Elundini, Gariep, Maletswai and Senqu. The main towns are Burgersdorp, Lady Grey, Maclear, Sterkspruit, Ugie, Mt Fletcher, Aliwal North and Barkly East, the seat of the district. Aliwal North serves as the main commercial centre in the district and attracts many tourists every year. The main economic sectors are agriculture, tourism and forestry.
