Mohokare Local Municipality

Mohokare, the Sesotho name for Caledon River, is a local municipality in the Xhariep district, Free State. The main towns are Rouxville, Smithfield and Zastron, the seat of local government. The main economic sector in the municipality is agriculture. Situated at the foot of the Aasvoelberg sandstone mountain near the Kingdom of Lesotho, Zastron is known for its San cave paintings and a curious mountain rock formation called Die Oog, meaning “The Eye”.
