Camdeboo Local Municipality

Camdeboo, derived from the Khoekhoe for “green hollow”, is a local municipality in the Cacadu district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Aberdeen, Adendorp, Kendrew, Nieu-Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet, which is the seat of local government. Graaff-Reinet, known as the “Gem of the Karoo”, is the fourth-oldest town in the whole of South Africa and the hub of agri-tourist activity. The main economic sectors are tourism and agriculture, predominantly the farming of ostrich and poultry as well as the production of wool, mohair and crops. Tourist attractions include museums, Camdeboo National Park and the Valley of Desolation.
