Makana Local Municipality

Makana, named after a Xhosa prophet, is a local municipality in the Cacadu district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Alicedale, Riebeek East, Sidbury and Grahamstown, which is the seat of local government. The main economic sectors are farming and tourism. Grahamstown is renowned as the festival capital of Africa and hosts the National Arts Festival among others. It is also heralded as the “City of Saints” and is home to over fifty churches.
