Kouga Local Municipality

Kouga is a local municipality in the Cacadu district, Eastern Cape. The main towns are Cape St Francis, Gamtoos Mouth, Hankey, Humansdorp, Loerieheuwel, Oyster Bay, Patensie, St Francis Bay, Thornhill and Jeffrey’s Bay, which is the seat of local government. The municipality lies to the west of the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan municipality. The main economic sectors are agriculture, fishing, tourism and hospitality. Jeffrey’s Bay is a famous surfing destination known worldwide as the “home of the perfect wave”, while Oyster Bay is also a popular area for water sports.
