Masaka
Masaka, named for its chief town, is a district located in the Central Region of Uganda and encompasses part of Lake Victoria.
Crop production is ripe in Masaka District, focussing on the cultivation of cash crops such as coffee and cotton as well as food crops, for example plantain, sweet bananas, pineapples and tomatoes. The presence of Lake Victoria provides apt opportunity for fishing, although some fish farming also takes place as does the rearing of cattle, goats and poultry. Small scale industry is also present in the district and focuses on coffee processing, cotton ginning, welding and soft drink manufacturing. Retail trade in food products and manufactured goods also contributes significantly to the local economy.
