Buliisa
Buliisa District is in Uganda’s Western Region and has its capital at Buliisa. The district was created in 2006 from part of the Masindi District. The district is largely rural and the majority of the population is engaged in subsistence agriculture, pastoralism or fishing. Lake Albert forms the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west of the Buliisa region and is an important source of both food and income for local people and fisheries. In the early 2000s crude oil deposits were discovered in Buliisa and the oil industry is being developed.
