Bushenyi

Bushyeni district is located in Uganda’s Western Region and has its capital at Bushyeni. It is a largely rural district and boasts a range of environments such as open grassland, water, wetland and forest. Bushyeni boasts many tourist attractions such as the Queen Elizabeth National Park, of which around 50 per cent lies in the district which includes the Kyambura Gorge, some of Lake Edward’s shores and the Kazinga Channel. The Ishasha Sector also lies within the Park and is famed for its safaris and particularly for the rare tree-climbing lions which live in the area. The Kalinzu Forest Reserve, the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve, the Kitagata Hot Springs and the Bunyaruguru Crater Lakes are other popular tourist attractions. Tourism provides some employment to the local population but the vast majority is engaged in small-scale agriculture producing tea, coffee and bananas.
