Kamwenge

Kamwenge is an agricultural district in Uganda’s Western Region. The majority of the population is engaged in small-scale agricultural production growing food crops including cassava and sweet potatoes and cash crops of coffee and cotton. Apiary is growing amongst small-scale farmers and there is much potential for honey production in the area.  Cattle-rearing is another significant economic activity and the area is famous for its long-horned cattle as well as a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The Katonga River supplies not only rich fishing territories but is also the central point for the Katonga Wildlife Reserve, a major tourist attraction. Elephant, waterbuckm reedbuck, colobus monkeys and river otters can all be seen in the district and canoe safaris attract many tourists every year.
