Baringo County

Baringo is a county situated in the former Rift Valley of Kenya. It is made up of six constituencies: Baringo East, Baringo West, Baringo Central, Mochongoi, Mogotio and Eldama Ravine. Kabarnet Town is the capital of the county. The Lake Bogoria National Reserve is lined with geysers and bubbling geothermal pools, attracting one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingos. The lake is also home to various forms of wildlife including crocodiles, hippopotamuses, an abundance of fish and over 500 species of birds. There are a number of hotels in the area which provide for many visitors year on year.

The county’s economy is based around the rearing of livestock and fishing, with Lake Baringo providing a staple diet of tilapia and catfish.
