Makueni County

Makueni County is located in the southern portion of the Eastern Province, and its administrative capital is Wote. The county covers an area of about 8000km2, and has a population of about 800,000 people. While the area does have a temperature range between 12 and 28 degrees Celsius suitbale for agriculture, rainfall is fairly low, averaging between 150mm to 650mm per year. Dam, irrigation schemes and bore holes have however been built which has improved the counties water supply and has allowed for the commercial farming of cotton and fruit. The county is also home to the Chyulu Hills National Park which has the longest lava tube in the world, and with caves and a diversity of wildlife, the Chyulu hills is a major tourist attraction.
