Bungoma County

Bungoma County is located in the western region of Kenya, and shares a border with Uganda. The county capital is Bungoma Town which was established as trading centre in the 20th century. The county covers a fairly large area of 3032km2, and with fairly warm temperatures ranging between 15-30 degrees Celsius, and an average rainfall from 1200mm to 1800mm, the county is well suited to agriculture, which is the counties main economic activity. Sugar cane and maize farming are the primary crops grown, but livestock is also an important agricultural activity. The county also has an important industrial district which focuses on sugar milling and paper production, and is an important sales point for the local agricultural economy.
