Turkana County

Kiambu is a county is situated in central Kenya. It is made up of six constituencies: Turkana North, Turkana West, Turkana Central, Loima, Turkana South and Turkana East. The capital of the county is Lodwar town, which is the largest town in North-western Kenya and the site where the first President of Kenya was detained pre-independence.

Lodwar attracts visitors year on year due to its rich history, and its main industries of basket weaving and fish trading along the shores of Lake Turkana. The lake, used by birds as a migratory stopping ground, counts among Turkana’s main tourist attractions together with Sibiloi National Park, which is home to hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles and a variety of snakes.

Fishing is a major economic activity in the county, although many residents also engage in rearing livestock such as goats, camels and donkeys. The Kerio River and Turkwell dam supply water to the region.
