Kajiado County

Kajiado County is located at the southern tip of the former Rift Valley Province, where it borders Nairobi city and the Kenya/Tanzania border to the south. The county has an estimated population of around 410,000 people, and the county capital is located at Kajiado. The county has been designated as semi-arid, and as a result of the low rainfall, agriculture does not play a large role in the local economy. Pastoralism on the other hand is the key contributor to the local economy, and has been on the increase due to the commercialization of the pastoral economy. The county is also home to the Amboseli National Park, which is a key tourist destination rich in wildlife.
